Furuno has a proud heritage here in New Zealand. One year ago we knew social media could play an important part of how we marketed the Furuno brand here in New Zealand. But we weren't quite sure how. Carl put together a very solid strategy which outlined how social media could work for us, and some very lofty goals for us to aim for. A year in and we have cracked the 10,000 mark on Facebook. Carl identified that our website needed a complete overhaul so there was seamless integration with social media. Pick up any NZ Fishing News for the last 20 years and Furuno has held the back cover position. A year ago we weren't really sure where to go with our advertising, and Carl has thought outside the square in terms of how we use this important piece of real estate. The customer testimonials and consumer promotions we now run in this space are working well, and we've gone back to our grass roots you might see in terms of how we interact with the NZ Fishing public. It is a great example of how print media and digital/social media can work together.

"Whitianga people had been talking for years about having a seafood festival to draw in the crowds. Carl took that vague idea, mobilised the towns biggest seafood company and local businesses and forged a recipe - scallops, scallops and more scallops - mixed with wine and entertainment. We were quietly optimistic hoping to pre sell a few tickets and a good number on the gate but realistic - it was the middle of winter after all!   Little did we know we'd have to close ticket sales off the week before the inaugural event! The next year 6000 tickets sold out in two days. The recipe was a winner! To run an event of this magnitude involved the coordination and planning of a multitude of logistics, communications, planning, risk and volunteer management. Carl was the brains behind all of this coordination and led the committee through all that needed to be done to pull off this inaugural event.  Carl remained the the driving force behind the Whitianga Scallop Festival for a further two years before leaving to concentrate on his highly successful fishing charter business. The success that Carl created with his recipe for Whitianga's Scallop Festival has continued to this day with the festival now being in its 10th year."
